Tennis for Africa event at Due Ponti Sporting Club

Roma

Tennis for Africa and the Due Ponti Sporting Club

Tennis for Africa owes a great deal to the Due Ponti Sporting Club. The collaboration began in 1997, when the association’s founder, Lorenzo Turchi, met brothers Emanuele and Pietro Tornabuoni to launch a charity event that over the years became a significant fixture in Rome ahead of the Italian Open: public practice sessions by tennis stars. Six successful editions were held between 1998 and 2002. In the following years, various initiatives followed, including “A Record for Solidarity” in 2013 and fundraising activities during the September Challenger.

Roma Cares, Tennis for Africa and the humanitarian corridors of the Community of Sant’Egidio

Tennis for Africa promoted an agreement between Roma Cares and the Community of Sant’Egidio to fund humanitarian corridors through the TENNIS WITH STARS charity event held during the 2016 Italian Open. Participants included Kuzmanovic, Florenzi, Fognini, Strootman, Dzeko, Lorenzi, Cecchinato, Seppi, El Shaarawy, Volandri, Totti, Pjanic, De Rossi, Kyrgios, Vinci and Schiavone.

Humanitarian corridors open new, safer routes for refugees, helping them avoid deadly sea journeys by providing safe transport and support for integration into social life.
